“The 9 Foods You Should Never Eat”
In the quest to eat healthily and reduce the intake of food that our body just doesn’t know how to digest I was pleased to see the post Dr Mercola put out today…which reminded me that I had originally seen the info about 18 months ago & acted on it!
I love tinned tomatoes but swapped to buying organic ones in cartons or glass bottles after reading what he had to say…
Tinned Tomatoes…“BPA is a toxic chemical linked to reproductive abnormalities, neurological effects, heightened risk of breast & prostate cancers, diabetes, heart disease & more. To avoid this hazardous chemical avoid canned food entirely and stick to fresh fruits & vegetables, or switch over to brands that use glass containers instead – especially for acidic foods like tomatoes.”
The other 8 are:
Processed meats… “typically made from meat from animals given growth hormones, antibiotics & other veterinary drugs.. .plus sodium nitrate, chemical flavourings & dyes”
Margarine… “a myriad of unhealthy components in margarine & other butter imposters, including trans fats, free radicals, emulsifiers, preservatives, hexane & other toxic solvents.”
Vegetable oils… “are highly processed and distort the omega-6 to omega-3 ratio… they can oxidise good cholesterol turning it into bad cholesterol. Coconut oil is best for cooking as it is not very susceptible to heat damage & is beneficial to the body. Olive oil is easily damaged by heat & is best reserved for drizzling over food.”
Microwave Popcorn… “the bags are lined with PFOA [in the US] & when they are heated the compound leaches into the popcorn.. it is known to disrupt the endocrine system & affect sex hormones.
Non Organic Produce… “Fruits & vegetables with the highest pesticide load, making them the most important to buy or grow organically, include apples, cucumber, spinach, kale & potatoes.”
Table salt…”table salt & the salt your body needs are not identical. Table salt contains chemicals like ferrocyanide & aluminosilicate. Himalayan salt is my favourite which contains about 84 trace minerals that your body needs.”
Soy Protein Isolate & Other Unfermented Soy Products… “most soy beans are genetically engineered using glyphosphate which disrupts cellular function which can induce many diseases including autism. Unfermented soy has been linked to malnutrition, digestive distress, immune system breakdown, thyroid dysfunction, cognitive decline, reproductive disorders & infertility.
Artificial Sweeteners… “such as Aspartame can stimulate the appetite, increase carbohydrate cravings, stimulate fat storage & weight gain. Methanol formed in Aspartame can wreak havoc with sensitive proteins & DNA in your body… humans do not have the protective mechanism that allows methanol to be broken down into formic acid. Toxicology testing on animals was a flawed model as animals do have this protective mechanism… the results do not apply to people.
